This study focuses on the change in cultural political attitude pondok pesantren Jember in the presidential election in the year 2004. By using qualitative approach, the research data are collected through deep interviews. There are to point which constitute as the resulth of the study. The first, there is a change in cultural political attitude in pondok pesantren Jember in the presidential election from a cultural attitude to a structural political attitude. The second, the freedom in the pesantren in Jember as the social political actor in forming its political action cannot be separated from the self-competence orientation, moral orientation, idealism orientation and political pragmatism orientation of the pesantren.het.
