The role of deoband's traditional ulama in India and of pesantren's ulama in Indonesia is undoubtedly. Their contribution to struggle for independence both in India and Indonesia have been negledted by many scholars compared to their counterparts from modernists. The deoband ulama' fought against the colonialism and rejected the idea of partition proposed by Ali Jinnah, the leader of muslim league. It means that the ulama struggle for India nationalism eventhough they became a minority group. While, traditional ulama' in Indonesia have the same contribution as their counterparts in India. Their struggle for independence and their agreement to omit the seven words in the Jakarta charter as a proof that the traditional ulama have a great contribution the Indonesia nationalism.he.
