After the death of the prophet Muhammad SAW, the first problem arising from muslim society had been a political on instead of theological. But the political problem had amounted to theological one in the next stage. In this phase, the question arising had been who is the believer and who is the unbeliever, that is, who is still muslim and who is not. As a consequence, the factions of muslims society had judged each other's reliability and at their turn had founded the theological doctrines for each. The present article compares Fazlur Rahman's theories on the origins and the developments of islamic theological sect and the other ones. Then the approaches of Rahman are analyzed critically to develop new approaches more viable and sympathetic.yo.
