Tafsir al Azhar of Hamka represents a masterpiece of contemporary Indonesia Qur'anic exegesis for its unique characteristics and styles. Writtenin expressive manner, the book becomes one of greatly-demanded reference as the author does not only rely on his own knowledge but he also refers to many sources written by great scholars before him. The author is also able to keep himself neutral as he avoids any controversial interpretation that my provokes enmity among muslims. In addition, Hamka involves philological approach in explaining verses of the Qur'an, a technique that makes his tafsir pleasant to read as it alsouses poetic language. This study is aimed to analyze the idiosyncrasy of the above mention Qur'anic exegesis by focusing on the method, style and technique used in interpreting verses of the Qur'an.yo.
