This article studies Islamic liberalism as a popular trend in Islamic thought recently. Several references had been researched, for example : Islamic Liberalism : A Critique of Development Ideologies by Leonard Binder and Liberal Islam : A Sourcebook edited by Charles Kurzman. Both of these books, although written a western scholar, but have differences. Binder has a conclusion that Islamic liberalism been influenced by west. So, the ideas of Islamic liberalism in Islamic thought always be seen with west perspective. While Kurzman said that liberal Islam was authentic from Islam. In fact, at historical perspective liberal Islam be able to refer to Shah Waliyullah of Delhi. As a reformist, Waliyullah recommended to Ummah in order to carry out ijtihad and left taqlid. We known that rationalization was a nucleus topic of Islamic liberalism. For enriching this discussion, the writer used the kind books, pro's and con's to Islamic liberalism.
