This paper aims to focus on whether the economic behavior can be influenced by the predominant religious belief, the role of Islamic principles in Muslim societies nowadays. But most of all is about potential of this shared values to fight proverty in the country like Indonesia, belonging to the so called developing world. The massive trend of capitalisme during the Soeharto rezim has brought no impact to the process of demoralizing the Indonesian people especially in rural areas. By doing ethnografic approach in in Desa Sukakarya, this paper argues that groups with shared values and a strong social cohesion [altruism] is said more successfull in gaining economic outcome compared to groups of the self interested people.ifa.
