Teaching speaking using thematic instructional snakes and ladders board game at second year of SMKN I Surabaya
This research is about teaching speaking using thematic instructional snakes rnand ladders board game to improve the students’ speaking ability of telling past event at second year of SMKN 1 Surabaya. The purposes of this study are to find out the application of thematic instructional Snakes and ladders game can improve the students’ achievement in speaking. rnThis research conducted at the second grade students of SMKN 1, Surabaya. rnThe researcher chooses second grade of accounting 5 which consists of 41 students. rnIn this research, the researcher used quantitative method, which is pre experimental method. The data are collected by pre-test, post-test and recording and transcribing student’s speaking. Furthermore, the instruments of this research are test, Tape recording and transcription, scoring rubric of speaking assessment. rnThe result of the research, first from the test, the researcher concludes that the use of thematic instructional Snakes and ladders board game can improve their achievement in speaking about past event. It proved from the mean of the pre-test and post-test, which is increase from 69,41 up to 76,41. Second from the results of recording and transcription, it showed the students speaking. The researcher makes the transcription about it. The researcher used the rubric of speaking to measure the students’ result of peaking. rn Thus, thematic instructional Snakes and ladders board game can give a rngood improvement on the students’ speaking ability of telling past event. The teacher can use it as alternative media when students feel bored with textbook or method in teaching activity.
