Cooperation is one of national economic foundations. It is expected that the presence of cooperation in the society is able to give economic values significantly. The districk of Jember has hundreds of pondok pesantren in which cooperations are established. This study wants to identify the role of the cooperations of pondok pesantren in empowering people's economy in Jember. The resuld shows that those cooperations of pondok pesantre do not have significantly economic effect to people in Jember. It happens because of some factors, namely the low human resources in management, monetary, and marketing, not to mention the weak funding, the less support from the goverment, and the less optimum participation of the soecity.het.
