Javanese has lost its Javanese value, is a phrase often said by parents particularly in East Java, to remind the youngs to keep the Javanese culture in mind, either its normn, conducts or arts. Shadow puppets represents one of Javaness arts which has had an on and off existence because of the incoming modern arts which has tremendous exposure and strong impact, especially on the youngs. The study tries to discuss the existence of shadow puppet in order to maintain Javanese culture. The frequency of its performance represents an indicator whether Javanese still maintain its culture on daily basis given that the performance of shadow puppets serves as a performance and education, as well as traditional communication media using Javanese in the dialog and giving examples in verbal expressions, attitudes and conducts perceived appropriate in Javanese community.
