Women are the most susceptible groups in poverty, injustice, andviolence. Women are also the strategic target group for community development. However, little attention has been paid to women's issues in philanthropy, especially on women empowerment. This essay takes the case of Islamic philanthropy andseeks for reasons behind the lack of attention by elaborating women's position in the teachings and practice of Islamic pilanthropy. It discovers that there is discrepancy between the teachings of Islamic philanthropy. The essay elaboratesthat male and female gain equal positions in the teachings of Islamic philanthropy found in the Qur'an and hadis. Moreover the Qur'an indicates social justice teachings. However, the practice of philanthropy does not reflect that gender equality and social justice but gender imbalance and discrimination toward women. This contradiction id due to the traditional and literal understanding of philanthropic teachings from the Qur'an and hadis..........yo.
