Shahrur has worked hard to trace a new path of ijtihad, by testing several models of thought inherited from calssical periods. His idea is well known as the theory of limits, working in the space between the maximum limit and the minimum one. He claims that his theory is valid as a whole to deal with new legal cases in Islamic perspective. This article tries to find out the main pillars of this theory, and concluded that Sharur still rely upon the linguistic analysis as the ancient fuqaha did. But he is consistent in his position maintained by some that there is no synonymous in the Arabic. His consistency seems to make his contribution considered as a new breakthrough to face contemporary issues especially in the problem of gender in islam.ifa.
