Analyzing readability levels of students wraiting argumentative essay in the fourth semester English education department IAIN Sunan Ampel Surabaya
This thesis is the result of these research problems : What are the readability levels of urth semester of English Education Department IAIN Sunan Ampel Surabaya 2013? What aspects which influence achievement in writing readable text? Writing is considered as the most difficult and complicated skill among listening, speaking and reading. One of the problems in writing is about the way to make our writing readable. Many writers think that they can emphasize what they want to deliver to the reader with the logically sentences in the text. As a result, they think that they have to explain with more words to support their ideas. Then, it will produce long sentences. Unfortunately, it is not utterly right but this case still exists among writers. It almost happens for beginner because they want to convince the reader with accurate data. Unfortunately, besides that, there are some elements, which are influence the readability of text or writing but many rnpeople do not know about it. They are the use of words, sentences, and syllable inside of writing or text. From this phenomenon, the researcher wants to know the readability level of students writing and some aspects, which are, influence their achievement in readability level. rnThe design of this research is descriptive research, since it analyzes and interprets the at influence. The researcher chooses mixed method as approach in this research. rnTherefore, this research starts with quantitative phase because the researcher rese writing from the fourth semester readable or not. Then, to help her establishing a rational research, she analyzes the curriculum of English Education Department in the fourth semester 2013 and spread out questionnaire to the students. This questionnaire is about the aspects, rnv riting readable writing. In this part, the researcher did the qualitative approach. , the students cannot write as readable as their education level yet. Some aspects achievement in readability level. The reasons are students do not have interest in writing, students have difficulties in grammar, getting the ideas, and they feel that they lack of vocabulary. In addition, students like use word with many syllables in their writing, students like use long sentence in their writing, student already practiced in English writing, spelling, increasing their vocabulary, listening and reading but it still less maximal. The main reason is Students do not consider about the reader of their writing because they write for their self. As a result, it makes their writing unreadable, as their level education must be.
