The use of Comic strips as a media in teaching writing at MTs. at-Taqwa, Lamongan
Writing is important. The interview with the English teacher and the result of the preliminary study revealed that students faced some various problems in writing but considered generating and organizing ideas as the most difficult problems. Thus, the use of comic strips was proposed to be implemented in the teaching English writing text to help students solve the problems. This media is useful to help student make an outline to make make it easier for them to express what they want to write.rnThis study is about the use of comic strips as a media in teaching English writing. The objective of this study is to find out whether there is a significant difference in the writing ability among the eighth grade students of MTs. At-Taqwa Lamongan who were taught by using comic strips as a media and those who were taught by using worksheet (LKS) as the media. rnThis study was a quasi-experimental research with two groups, experimental and control groups. This study involved 64 students who were divided into two groups: the experimental group and the control group. Comic strip served as the independent variable as was used as the treatment to the experimental group. The treatment was conducted twice. The data were obtained by calculating the means of two essay writing tests from both experimental and control groups. Post test was administered to both groups at the last meeting. The result of the test was used to determine whether there is a significant difference between students who were taught using comic strips as a media and those who were taught only by using LKS as a media. rnThe analysis of the test result and the mean scores shows that teaching writing using comic strips is more effective in helping students in generating idea to start writing than teaching writing using LKS. The the final test score of experimental and control group were compared to find out the differences in score from both groups. In experimental group, the mean score was 80.48 while the control class was 72.00. The experimental achieved higher than control group. Moreover, the verification using t-test showed that t-score is 4,78 it is higher than t table is 2.00. Based on the result of the score above, it is concluded that using comic strips as a media is more effective than using LKS in developing the eighth grade students’ writing ability at MTs At-Taqwa Kalanganyar, Lamongan.rn
